ZUQ vs Khan Academy

225 modules, one bar each

Khan Academy is a non-profit that offers free lessons. If what you need is already there, it costs nothing and you can start now - check it first, and this page will still be here afterwards.

ZUQ is for the thing that is not there. One request in plain words, or your own reference files, and a course is planned for exactly that: modules in order, each with one job, worked examples inside them, and a recall and self-test module at the end, pitched at a level you choose and sized to the time you have. This page says what ZUQ does. It is not a ranking.

StatusEarly build: we save your request and plan the course. No course video is generated yet - a finished build hands you a sample file, not your course - and we will tell you the day that changes.

ZUQ is an AI course generator that builds one planned, full-length training video course from a request or your own reference files, at a level you choose. Khan Academy is a non-profit that offers free lessons. One is free and already made; the other is built to order.

What ZUQ is for

ZUQ builds a course on the subject you name, from the material you supply, at the level you choose. That covers three things no library of finished lessons can: a subject nobody has made a lesson about - a scanner protocol, a turbocharger, one chapter of one textbook, a contract you have to sign this week; your own file as the source, up to five of them with your own one-line note on each; and a pitch chosen per reader, from beginner assuming nothing to expert assuming the literature, with the runtime chosen too.

Every build has worked examples inside its modules and ends with a recall and self-test module. It runs on minutes only: the free plan grants a monthly allowance with no card needed, paid plans grant more, and top-up minutes never expire. A build spends exactly the minutes of runtime it produces.

What ZUQ does not do

ZUQ is not free throughout. The free plan grants a monthly allowance of minutes with no card needed and watermarked exports; past that, minutes come from a paid plan or a top-up. If your subject is already covered somewhere free, using the free thing is the better move and we would rather say so here than after you have spent minutes.

There is also no ongoing exercise bank and no progress tracking across builds. The practice is inside the course it builds - worked examples in the modules, and the recall and self-test module at the end - and that is the whole of it. Nothing follows you from one build to the next, and nothing tracks a skill over weeks.

Where ZUQ is today

Each finished build hands back a sample file for now, not your rendered course.

Early build: an update request spends real minutes and hands back another sample file, not your rendered course. The video you have now is kept exactly as it is, and we will tell you the day real rendering begins.

This page does not describe Khan Academy's pricing, features or quality. Those are Khan Academy's to state and they change; check Khan Academy's own site for what it offers today. What is set out above is what ZUQ does, and it does not rank either product.

ZUQ
What it isAn AI course generator: one request, or your own reference files, in - a planned training video course out, in modules, ending in a recall and self-test module
What you give itOne request in plain words, a level and a runtime. You write no script and approve no outline - the module titles are decided when the build starts, and they appear on the build card in your library
Reference filesYes: up to 5 reference files, 10 MB each at most - PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF images, PDF, plain text or Markdown - and you write your own one-line note on each. Up to 20,000 characters are read from a PDF or text file
Who writes the courseAI models plan the course and write its chapters from your one request or your own files. You write nothing: no script, no outline, no module list
How long it can beFrom 30 seconds to 30 hours, in modules, with no cap on how many modules a course has or how many courses you build - minutes are the only thing that runs out
Pitched at your levelPitched at beginner, intermediate, advanced or expert, chosen before the build starts. The level never changes the price
Cost modelMinutes only: a monthly allowance per plan, from 30 free on Free to 9,000 a month on Institute, plus top-up minutes that never expire. Every build spends its own runtime, and an update request spends the original's runtime again
How it reaches youA watch page of its own at /v/{slug}, private by default. You can grant a link, or make it public - only a public one is crawlable

Questions

What does a finished ZUQ build hand back?

Each finished build hands back a sample file for now, not your rendered course. Your request, the plan and the module list are saved and kept, each build gets its own watch page that is private until you share it, and we will say so the day real rendering begins.

What is the difference between ZUQ and Khan Academy?

Start with what ZUQ takes and makes. It takes one request in plain words, up to five reference files, a level and a runtime, and plans a course for exactly that: modules in order, worked examples, a recall and self-test module at the end, from 30 seconds to 30 hours, on a monthly allowance of minutes. For what Khan Academy offers, read Khan Academy.

Is ZUQ free?

Partly. The free plan grants a monthly allowance of minutes with no card needed, and its exports are watermarked. Past that allowance, minutes come from a paid plan or from a top-up pack that never expires. Runtime is the only thing priced.

Can ZUQ help my child with fractions?

It is designed for that request: photograph the worksheet, ask for fractions pitched gently for a beginner, choose a runtime, and a course is planned around it. If a free lesson on fractions already lands for your child, use it. Each finished build hands back a sample file for now, not your rendered course.

Does ZUQ have practice exercises?

Every ZUQ build has worked examples inside its modules and ends with a recall and self-test module. That is the practice: it is inside the course, not an ongoing exercise bank, and nothing tracks a skill from one build to the next.

What if I want the finished course changed?

You ask for the change in plain words. Early build: an update request spends real minutes and hands back another sample file, not your rendered course. The video you have now is kept exactly as it is, and we will tell you the day real rendering begins.
